Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that our department and the CSUEB campus is on the ancestral land
of the Yrgin Chochenyo Ohlone People. We pay respects to the Ohlone people, past,
present, and future.

We invite you to reflect on the history of the lands and waterways we are all privileged to gather on. We also invite you to reflect on the legacies of colonization embedded within the technologies we use—how some pieces of technology are not available in many poor, marginalized and Indigenous communities, and how many of our technologies leave a carbon footprint that disproportionally affect poor, marginalized, and Indigenous communities. We invite everyone to take some time to consider our roles in reconciliation, decolonization and allyship.

Our Department

The Theatre and Dance Department has a performance-oriented program offering undergraduate students, unparalleled opportunity to perform in major department productions beginning in their first year. Our campus is the most diverse in the entire CSU system and we have one of the most innovative theater and dance curriculums in the state.

Former students work professionally and hold teaching positions locally and across the nation in Acting, Dance, Technical Theater, Design and Stage Management.

Parable of Belonging

May 5-7, 2026

From 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Free Public Performance

CSU East Bay Core Building

The project is being created by the Wandering Ensemble (Dandelion Dancetheater and the CSUEB Inclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble) and a diverse collection of  students, scholars, teachers, artists, organizers, and community members.
Parable of Belonging is based on the books  by Octavia E. Butler and
by adrienne maree brown, and will use inclusive performance to explore
what life in the Bay Area could be like in 30 years.
Octavia Butler imagined 30 years into her future from the 1990’s to write her Parable series.
and now we are living in a version of the future she saw.

Parable of Belonging is an invitation for us to come together across disciplines, departments, colleges, religions, cultures, ways of knowing, creative forms, and identities to face the crises of our time and work together to develop sustainable, life-affirming, inclusive strategies of response.
